Many of Dr. Whitfield's patients travel from across the country — and around the world — to Austin for their surgical care. We understand that planning a trip for surgery adds an extra layer of complexity, and we're here to make it as smooth as possible.
Austin is a vibrant, welcoming city with excellent dining, beautiful outdoor spaces, and a warm climate that's conducive to healing. Our practice is located in the Westlake area, a quiet, upscale neighborhood just minutes from downtown Austin.
Most patients plan to stay approximately 5 to 7 days, depending on their procedure and recovery needs. We recommend arriving at least one day before your surgery and planning to stay for your first post-operative follow-up appointment before traveling home.
These properties are close to the practice and well-suited for a comfortable recovery stay. We recommend booking early as availability can be limited.

Austin's airport is well-connected with direct flights from most major US cities. It's located approximately 25 minutes from our Westlake practice, depending on traffic. The airport features live music, local food vendors, and is consistently rated one of the best mid-size airports in the country.
We recommend using Uber or Lyft for transportation during your stay, especially after surgery when you should not be driving. Both services are widely available throughout Austin. If you prefer, rental cars are available at the airport, but please arrange for someone else to drive you to and from your surgery.
Austin has a warm climate year-round. Pack comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that's easy to put on after surgery. Bring button-front or zip-up tops — you'll want to avoid pulling anything over your head during early recovery. Don't forget sunscreen and a hat if you plan to enjoy any outdoor time.
