While non-surgical procedures such as injectables and lasers can certainly revitalize the face, no procedure will turn back the clock like a facelift.
It allows the surgeon to take a fully comprehensive approach to your facial aging. We perform facelifts in Austin because it is hands down the "gold standard" for facial rejuvenation.
With a surgical facelift, Dr. Robert Whitfield is able to:
Plastic surgeon in Austin, Dr. Whitfield performs both traditional and short-scar facelifts using the SMAS (submuscular aponeurotic system) technique. In the past, the downside of facelift surgery was that it could make a patient look pulled or "done." The SMAS - a thin layer of connective tissue or fascia located beneath the skin and fat, but above the muscle - interconnects the muscles of the face, mid-face, and neck.
By working at this deep level, there is no pulling on the skin. Instead, the skin is re-draped over your newly tightened muscles. When this technique is used by a very experienced surgeon such as Dr. Whitfield, it can deliver a truly natural-looking result for both men and women.Schedule Consultation
A facelift is performed under general anesthesia at an accredited surgery center. Some patients may desire to stay overnight under the supervision of a nurse, while others may choose to go home with a caregiver such as a family member.
You will need some help for the first few days. Dr. Whitfield advises his patients to be extremely careful about lifting or exercise that will elevate the heart rate or blood pressure significantly during their first few weeks post-op. You will be examined the morning following surgery. Dr. Whitfield will assess your skin and soft tissues and remove any drains. You will come back in seven to ten days to have stitches removed.
A facelift provides an immediate result, with the skin appearing smoother and dramatically less saggy and wrinkled the moment the patient wakes from surgery in a comfortable recovery room, aided by a dedicated nurse.
It is normal to experience some bruising and swelling in the first stages of recovery. The swelling tends to reach its peak about three or four days following surgery, so be patient and kind to yourself as your body heals. Depending on how many procedures you had received, you may be swollen anywhere from one to four weeks. While your final results may take up to six months, you should notice excellent improvements in about two weeks.
For most facelift patients, the incisions will be placed in the hairline and around the ear. However, with a short scar facelift, there are no incisions behind the ear. The advantage of this is that it, as the name implies, produces a shorter scar.
While this sounds ideal, it does not necessarily mean a less visible scar. The disadvantage is that it only works for certain patients and cannot address the neck. Dr. Whitfield is sensitive to the fact that no patient wants a visible scar; this is where his experience and years of training really come into play. He is meticulous in the making and closing of his incisions, creating well-hidden facelift scars.
Try the MyEllevate™ Facial Rejuvenation procedure.
The Ellevate facelift is a minimally invasive procedure that is easily performed while the patient is comfortably under local anesthesia for light sedation, rather than costly general anesthesia. Your MyEllevate procedure can be further enhanced by pairing it with energy-based laser skin tightening technology.
First invented by Dr. Gregory Mueller in Beverly Hills, the Ellevate skin rejuvenation treatment uses an ICLED® light-guided suture system to help support and reshape the underlying facial muscles and glands. It creates a more youthful jawline with improved definition and tighter skin on the lower face that has begun to sag due to the effects of aging. This is an excellent alternative to facelift surgery for select candidates that have experienced early signs of facial aging and are not yet ready for a full facelift procedure, which is more invasive.
Finally, a non-surgical alternative to facelift surgery. Another alternative to facelift surgery is the liquid facelift, a non-surgical procedure in which Dr. Whitfield uses carefully placed dermal filler injections to restore lost volume to depleted skin.
Many patients seek facelift surgery around age 40 and older, however, some men and women have experienced pronounced signs of aging but are not yet ready for traditional facelift surgery. With Dr. Whitfield’s innovative liquid facelift technique, there are no incisions of any kind and very minimal discomfort during the procedure. Unlike facelift surgery, the patient is awake for the entirety of the procedure.
Not everyone is a good candidate for the liquid facelift procedure, however. Those with advanced signs of facial aging such as excess skin may require a traditional facelift surgery or a liquid facial combined with skin tightening procedures to see the result they wish to achieve.
Dr. Whitfield will conduct a personalized skin examination and learn about your goals during the consultation process in order to provide an expert recommendation on the treatment (or combination of treatments) that will deliver the cosmetic outcome you are seeking.
Dermal fillers composed of gentle but strong hyaluronic acid are injected strategically into the skin, adding facial volume that has been lost due to the effects of gravity and time. For those that have experienced moderate facial aging, it is an excellent facelift alternative that provides instantly visible results with no recovery period.
Mild bruising, swelling, and injection site pain are the most common reported side effects. These conditions are temporary and should quickly subside. Patients can return to work and most routine daily activities right after they leave the appointment. Experience a dramatically rejuvenated face with improved facial contours, reduced wrinkles, and youthful volume in just a matter of minutes.
Advantages of the Ellevate technique include no overnight hospital stay, no sutures or surgical scars, immediately visible results, and less post-op pain and recovery time, compared to surgical methods of facial rejuvenation.
MyEllevate is not a facelift surgery, nor is it a thread lift. Light-guided energy provides jawline definition to elevate sagging jowls and create a contoured jawline that looks years younger. The best part of the procedure is that it only takes about one hour to perform on average and does not require the patient to undergo general anesthesia. Patients that respond poorly to anesthesia or that have experienced nausea from anesthesia in the past find this makes the nonsurgical procedure far more comfortable and pleasant to undergo, rather than have a traditional facial rejuvenation surgery to reverse aging skin at the jawline.
During your facelift consultation, Dr. Whitfield will discuss the pros and cons of facelift procedures, whether you are a candidate, what to expect, and will evaluate your unique anatomy and needs. Together, you will agree upon a fully customized treatment plan that fits your budget and aesthetic goals.
Dr. Whitfield is pleased to serve as your personal anti-aging guide and understands that the decision to have facelift surgery or nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedures is not about vanity. It’s about preserving your appearance in a natural way as the years go by so that each patient can feel confident in their appearance and put their best face forward every day.Austin Plastic Surgeon Dr. Robert Whitfield
