A smoother, younger face

While non-surgical procedures such as injectables and lasers can certainly revitalize the face, no procedure will turn back the clock like a facelift.

Facelift Technique

Plastic surgeon in Austin, Dr. Whitfield performs both traditional and short-scar facelifts using the SMAS (submuscular aponeurotic system) technique. In the past, the downside of facelift surgery was that it could make a patient look pulled or "done." The SMAS - a thin layer of connective tissue or fascia located beneath the skin and fat, but above the muscle - interconnects the muscles of the face, mid-face, and neck.
By working at this deep level, there is no pulling on the skin. Instead, the skin is re-draped over your newly tightened muscles. When this technique is used by a very experienced surgeon such as Dr. Whitfield, it can deliver a truly natural-looking result for both men and women.

How long does it take to see facelift results?

A facelift provides an immediate result, with the skin appearing smoother and dramatically less saggy and wrinkled the moment the patient wakes from surgery in a comfortable recovery room, aided by a dedicated nurse.

With a surgical facelift, Dr. Robert Whitfield is able to:

  • Lift loose skin
  • Create a more defined jawline
  • Tighten lax muscles to smooth sagging cheeks and jowls
  • Address any aging issues in the neck if needed
  • Place the brow back in its original, more youthful-looking position
More About Dr. Whitfield

Where will the facelift incisions be?

For most facelift patients, the incisions will be placed in the hairline and around the ear. However, with a short scar facelift, there are no incisions behind the ear. The advantage of this is that it, as the name implies, produces a shorter scar. While this sounds ideal, it does not necessarily mean a less visible scar. The disadvantage is that it only works for certain patients and cannot address the neck. Dr. Whitfield is sensitive to the fact that no patient wants a visible scar; this is where his experience and years of training really come into play. He is meticulous in the making and closing of his incisions, creating well-hidden facelift scars.

Recovery from a facelift

A facelift is performed under general anesthesia at an accredited surgery center. Some patients may desire to stay overnight under the supervision of a nurse, while others may choose to go home with a caregiver such as a family member.

You will need some help for the first few days. Dr. Whitfield advises his patients to be extremely careful about lifting or exercise that will elevate the heart rate or blood pressure significantly during their first few weeks post-op. You will be examined the morning following surgery. Dr. Whitfield will assess your skin and soft tissues and remove any drains. You will come back in seven to ten days to have stitches removed.

Not ready for a facelift?

Try the MyEllevate™ Facial Rejuvenation procedure.
The Ellevate facelift is a minimally invasive procedure that is easily performed while the patient is comfortably under local anesthesia for light sedation, rather than costly general anesthesia. Your MyEllevate procedure can be further enhanced by pairing it with energy-based laser skin tightening technology.
Benefits of MyEllevate™ jawline contouring
MyEllevate is not a facelift surgery, nor is it a thread lift. Light-guided energy provides jawline definition to elevate sagging jowls and create a contoured jawline that looks years younger. The best part of the procedure is that it only takes about one hour to perform on average and does not require the patient to undergo general anesthesia.
 Try a Liquid Facelift
Finally, a non-surgical alternative to facelift surgery. Another alternative to facelift surgery is the liquid facelift, a non-surgical procedure in which Dr. Whitfield uses carefully placed dermal filler injections to restore lost volume to depleted skin.

What is a Blepharoplasty? (Eyelid Surgery)

Your eyes also, unfortunately, are where the earliest signs of aging appear. The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate than that on the rest of the face, making it particularly susceptible to fine lines, sagging skin and puffiness. For these issues, getting a blepharoplasty in Austin can provide some of the most profound results of all aesthetic procedures. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to revitalize the look of the upper lid, the lower lid or both. It is a great option for both men and women who want to look refreshed, but who are not ready for a more extensive anti-aging surgical enhancement such as a facelift.

Types of Blepharoplasty Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery
Age, genetics and lifestyle choices such as smoking and sun exposure can weaken the tissues around the eyes. The result is sagging skin and puffy fat on the upper eyelids that can make you look haggard, perpetually tired and older than your years. In severe cases, the skin may even be limiting your peripheral vision.

An upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure in which Dr. Whitfield lifts the skin and muscles on the upper lids and removes or repositions any fatty deposits if necessary. The stitches are placed in the crease of the eyelid where they won’t be noticeable once you have recovered.
Lower eyelid surgery
MyEllevate is not a facelift surgery, nor is it a thread lift. Light-guided energy provides jawline definition to elevate sagging jowls and create a contoured jawline that looks years younger. The best part of the procedure is that it only takes about one hour to perform on average and does not require the patient to undergo general anesthesia.

A custom brow lift – natural-looking results.

No one wants to look in the mirror and see a heavy, drooping brow. With age, the skin and muscles of the forehead begin to lose strength and resiliency, causing the brow to sag or droop.
You may be left with eyes that appear hooded, looking perpetually tired or angry. Restoring your brows to their former, youthful, lifted position which is why we offer a brow lift in Austin, to make you look happier, younger, and well-rested. The most critical point in an effective brow lift is proper positioning; it will look unnatural when the brow is placed too high. You don’t want a result that makes you appear as if you are in a constant state of surprise.

Where are the incisions made in a brow lift?

A brow lift can reduce the horizontal lines across the forehead, improve the “eleven” lines between the eyebrows, and lift a sagging brow back to a more youthful position, making the eyes look more awake. Dr. Whitfield performs what is called an endoscopic brow lift. This advanced approach to facial surgery involves the use of an endoscope, a tiny camera inserted within the brow structure, with the muscular condition revealed on a television monitor.
