Explant Recovery

Explant Surgery Recovery — The Holistic SHARP Method

A holistic recovery program for explant patients · Available whether or not Dr. Whitfield performs your surgery

Most women are told explant recovery is a matter of rest and time. For a woman who was well before surgery, that is often true.

It is frequently not true for women who were sick before they explanted. If you went into surgery with fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, or recurring inflammation, removing the implants addresses the source — but it does not automatically undo what years of that burden did to the rest of your body. That is why a meaningful number of women feel better for a short while after explant and then find themselves back where they started, wondering whether the surgery worked.

It usually did. Recovery is the part nobody planned — and it is the part the SHARP Method is built for.

Available Beyond Austin

You Do Not Have to Be Dr. Whitfield's Surgical Patient

This surprises most women, so it is worth saying plainly.

The SHARP Method is available to you regardless of who performs your explant surgery.

Whether you are booked with a surgeon in another state, or you had your explant months or years ago with someone else, you can still work with this team.

SHARP is a holistic preparation and recovery program. It is not surgical care, and it does not replace your surgeon's post-operative instructions or interfere with the surgical plan you have made — it runs alongside them.

The reason this matters: almost no explant surgeon in the country offers a structured recovery program. Your surgeon is very likely excellent at the operation. Most surgical practices simply are not built to manage what happens in the months that follow — and if you live somewhere with few functional medicine providers, there may be nowhere local to turn.

The Difference

Why Explant Recovery Is Different

The burden does not leave with the implant

Years of chronic inflammatory load affect detoxification pathways, gut integrity, hormone regulation, and sleep. Removing the source stops the input. It does not, by itself, reverse the downstream effects.

Surgery is its own inflammatory event

Explant surgery — particularly total capsulectomy — is a real operation with a real inflammatory response, layered on top of a system that was already taxed. How well the body is prepared beforehand shapes how well it absorbs that.

Most post-operative care is structural, not systemic

Standard post-op care addresses drains, incisions, activity restriction, and healing. Those matter. They are not designed to address why you were symptomatic in the first place.

The capsule may explain part of it

In Dr. Whitfield's published series of 694 consecutive capsule specimens analyzed by PCR, 29% tested positive for bacterial contamination and 103 distinct bacterial species were identified — including in capsules that appeared entirely normal. Standard culture is not designed to recover organisms living in biofilm.

The Program

What the SHARP Method Is

SHARP — Strategic Holistic Accelerated Recovery Program — is a structured, physician-designed preparation and recovery program built specifically for explant patients. It is delivered by a dedicated clinical team that operates independently of the surgical schedule.

1

Holistic and testing-led, not a template

The program begins with evaluation rather than a standard supplement list — detoxification capacity, inflammatory markers, gut function, hormones, and nutrient status. What you do is determined by what your testing shows.

2

Delivered by a dedicated team

The SHARP team is made up of credentialed practitioners whose entire role is preparation and recovery. They are not surgical staff working recovery in the margins.

3

Available remotely, anywhere

The program is delivered remotely to patients anywhere, by phone or video — whichever you prefer. Patients from 40+ states and 15 countries have completed this protocol.

4

Available in three tiers

Three levels of support, so the program matches how much structure you actually need. Which tier fits is determined during your discovery call.

Secondary Search Term, Same Recovery Need

Breast Implant Removal Recovery — the Same Thing, Different Words

"Explant," "breast implant removal," and "breast implant illness recovery" describe the same journey. Whatever term your surgeon used, if you had your implants removed and you are not recovering the way you expected, the questions are the same: what was driving your symptoms, what did surgery leave behind, and what does your body need to actually heal.

The SHARP Method answers those questions with testing and a structured plan rather than with rest and hope. It is the piece standard breast implant removal recovery leaves out.

Is This for You?

Who This Is For

You are preparing for explant surgery — with any surgeon

The window before surgery is the highest-leverage time available, and it is the one most often wasted. Preparation is about entering the operating room in the best condition you can, rather than depleted.

You have already had explant surgery and are not recovering

If you are past the point where you expected to feel better and you do not, that is not a personal failing and it is not permanent. It is usually addressable, and it is usually measurable.

You have a high toxic burden

Long implant duration, known detox pathway issues, mold exposure, heavy metals, or gut permeability. These change what recovery requires.

You are not having surgery at all — yet

Some women are still deciding, or are not ready to explant. The preparation side of the program stands on its own.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do the SHARP Method if another surgeon is performing my explant?

Yes. The program is available regardless of who performs your surgery. It is a preparation and recovery program, not surgical care, and it is designed to run alongside your surgeon's plan rather than replace any part of it.

I had my explant somewhere else and I still feel sick. Can you help?

This is one of the most common reasons women come to this team. Persistent symptoms after explant are common enough to be expected in patients who were significantly symptomatic beforehand, and they are usually addressable once you know what is driving them.

Do I have to travel to Austin?

No. The program is delivered remotely, by phone or video, to patients anywhere. Some patients choose to come to Austin for in-person work, but it is not required.

Will this interfere with my surgeon's instructions?

No. SHARP does not override or replace post-operative surgical instructions. Your surgeon's guidance takes precedence on surgical matters, and anything that could interact with your surgical plan is reviewed first.

How long does the program take?

That depends on your testing, your history, and which tier you are in, and it is reviewed during your discovery call rather than promised in advance.

What does it cost?

There are three tiers at different levels of support. Pricing is reviewed during your discovery call, once it is clear which tier actually fits your situation.

What is actually tested?

Evaluation is individualized and can include detoxification capacity, inflammatory markers, gut function, hormone panels, and nutrient status. The specific panel is determined by your history and symptoms.

Your First Step

Start With a Discovery Call

A discovery call is a structured conversation about your implant history, your symptoms, where you are in the process, and whether this program is a fit. It is remote, and it does not require you to be — or to become — a surgical patient of this practice.

The SHARP Method is a preparation and recovery program. It is not surgical care and does not replace the post-operative instructions of your treating surgeon. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Always check with your physician before making changes to your care. Individual results vary.
