Mommy Makeover

Let’s be honest, pregnancy takes a toll on a woman’s body. This is especially true for women who’ve had multiple children or twins. Often after pregnancy, the muscles in the abdomen are unable to return to a youthful, taut position, a problem diet and exercise cannot fix. Furthermore, the skin has been stretched and the breasts have lost volume and “perkiness” after breastfeeding. The result is a body that has radically changed in appearance – or a mom who is in need of a custom mommy makeover in Austin.

What is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a blanket term to describe a combination of procedures to re-contour the body. While it typically includes a tummy tuck and breast surgery, Dr. Robert Whitfield always approaches each patient from a 360˚ viewpoint. He wants you to be exceptionally pleased with your restored body and plans your procedures to achieve that goal.

Tummy Tuck

Most women who have had children are going to require a tummy tuck as part of their mommy makeover. It is the only way to repair stretched muscles and remove excess skin and fat over the entire abdomen, delivering the smooth, flat, youthful tummy of your pre-pregnancy days. In the hands of an experienced surgeon such as Dr. Whitfield, the surgical scar will be placed low and is easily hidden, even in a bikini bottom.

Breast Surgery

The right breast surgery is going to depend on your individual needs. Most women who have breastfed multiple children will require a breast lift. Again, the only way to correct loose, sagging skin is with a surgical excision. If you have also lost volume, then Dr. Whitfield may suggest the addition of a breast implant to restore the plump, rounded look that signals youth. Some women may require a custom breast reduction and reshaping. For others who have retained good skin quality, a breast augmentation may be all that’s needed to restore lovely, youthful breasts.

Liposuction

A mommy makeover may also include liposuction to smooth the contours of the body at waist, love handles, and thighs, and buttocks. Dr. Whitfield may recommend natural fat transfer to subtly enhance breast volume or create a more rounded, pert look to your buttocks.

What is the recovery time from a mommy makeover?

Recovery will depend on the procedures performed in your custom mommy makeover, as well as whether Dr. Whitfield needed to repair stretched or split abdominal muscles. This surgical technique will improve the look of a protruding lower abdomen commonly appears after pregnancy or multiple pregnancies. The abdomen will feel tighter over the first few months following surgery.

Most breast and abdominal procedures can be safely combined. Whether or not this is safe for you will be discussed in detail during your initial consultation.

A mommy makeover is typically done under general anesthesia in an accredited surgery center and may or may not require an overnight stay. Although swelling following breast surgery may take in the range of three to six months to fully resolve, most patients will notice a marked improvement at six weeks and are able to get back to normal life in about two weeks after surgery, although you will need to limit vigorous exercise until given the medical okay to do so.

Drainless tummy tuck in a mommy makeover

For some women, Dr. Whitfield performs what is called a drainless tummy tuck. In this procedure a tissue glue can be used to help eliminate the need for a drain. The long-lasting analgesic Exparel is used during surgery to prevent discomfort for up to three days, speeding recovery.

"Because no two individuals are the same, cosmetic enhancement must be approached with meticulous precision and personalized care."
