There have always been great surgical options for improving a patient's body contours — mainly liposuction, a tummy tuck, or an arm lift. Until BodyTite, there has never been a technique that gets rid of excess fat AND tightens the skin without leaving fairly large scars.
BodyTite is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses RFAL, or radio frequency-assisted lipolysis. FDA approved for skin tightening, the device works within two areas: one on top of the skin, and one under the skin. The RF energy passes between these two points, heating the tissues from both inside and outside. This destroys the fat cells in the treatment area and leaves your skin tighter, smoother, and more youthful.
The procedure is ideal for patients who have small amounts of excess fat, and loose (but not severely sagging) skin. During your consultation for the Austin BodyTite treatment, Dr. Whitfield discusses your body contouring goals. He will perform a physical exam, assessing skin quality, skin laxity, and the amount of excess fat you wish to remove. We use BodyTite in Austin because it is a truly exciting new addition to Dr. Robert Whitfield's body contouring toolbox. It is the first minimally invasive procedure that delivers surgical results with no downtime and little scarring.
What areas of the body can be treated with BodyTite?
BodyTite works on virtually any body part that needs it. The most popular areas patients have BodyTite are the following:
Do you wish to tighten sagging facial skin or reduce chin fat or sagging jowls? The same technology is available in a smaller device that is designed for these small, and hard-to-reach areas. FaceTite is like BodyTite for the face, neck, and jawline.
Both work wonderfully to shape and smooth contours of the face and body. Dr. Whitfield is pleased to offer BodyTite, FaceTite, and alternatives like AccuTite, among many other nonsurgical facelifts and body contouring procedures. And for those patients that need traditional surgery, Dr. Whitfield is also a highly experienced plastic surgeon in Austin that specializes in face and body procedures.
During your procedure for BodyTite in Austin, Dr. Whitfield will insert a probe through two tiny incisions in the treatment area.
This allows the probe to heat your skin three-dimensionally: in the dermis layer, in the underlying connective tissue, and in the deep fat. Built-in safeguards maintain a comfortable level of heat and protect your skin. The fat is then removed using a thin tube, called a cannula. This basic procedure is similar to other types of liposuction. The difference is that with BodyTite, radiofrequency energy melts, or liquefies, the fat. This makes it easier to remove the fat while doing no harm to the surrounding tissues. The device can be used anywhere on the body where you may have excess fat or loose skin, such as the arms, abdomen, breasts, knees, thighs, chin, and back.More ABout Dr. Whitfield
The advantages of BodyTite are the following:
Patients that don’t want surgical fat reduction have always looked for ways to reduce body fat without needing to go under the knife.
Non-surgical options such as CoolSculpting (fat freezing) were praised as an ideal solution. However, CoolSculpting comes with some drawbacks compared to BodyTite. CoolSculpting technology uses very cold temperatures applied to the body with paddles that some patients say are uncomfortable. The cold temperatures selectively target and freeze fat cells, killing them off. The body then disposes of the dead fat cells by breaking them down and excreting them. The treated area looks slimmer as a result.
Yet there is something CoolSculpting does not do, which is tighten loose skin. Removing fat can even cause the skin to appear loose since the fat pad is not there to make the skin appear firm and plump. While CoolSculpting usually doesn’t remove enough fat to cause skin laxity, patients that already have loose skin on the abdomen, hips, thighs, etc. may be at risk. That’s where BodyTite comes in. BodyTite reduces fat and tightens skin at the same time. CoolSculpting just doesn’t compare.
Your BodyTite recovery from the procedure will depend on which area or areas you have treated. In general, most patients will experience some post-treatment swelling, bruising, or a feeling of skin tightness. Wearing a compression garment is often recommended. There is no actual downtime associated with BodyTite, and most people can return to daily life immediately. Exercise can resume within a few days when the initial BodyTite side effects subside. The procedure can be performed with local anesthesia in the office. There is no need for surgery or operating room fees.
Improvement can be seen quickly but final results may take up to six months. These results can last for years if a steady weight is maintained.
Yes. BodyTite works well alone or can be performed alongside other body reshaping procedures to enhance the results. As an experienced plastic surgeon that embraces both surgical and nonsurgical procedures, Dr. Whitfield offers a full range of services that can be customized to the patient’s unique needs. BodyTite can be performed alone or in conjunction with another procedure, such as liposuction or Cellfina for cellulite removal.
While both techniques permanently reduce fat by suctioning it out of the body, BodyTite offers one major advantage over traditional liposuction. Frequently when we lose weight “by whatever means”, the skin does not have the elasticity to automatically tighten and look smooth. In fact, the older we become, the less collagen and elastin we produce, and thus sagging skin is the result. Liposuction works great to get rid of fat bulges, but it relies on natural skin retraction to tighten around the new contours. This, unfortunately, does not always occur — especially in older patients with less elastin and collagen, which are skin proteins needed to make skin firm, elastic, and tightly contoured.
That’s not a problem with BodyTite technology. BodyTite collagen induction therapy also boosts your natural collagen levels, tightening your skin once the underlying fat is removed. This eliminates the problem of loose skin after liposuction by avoiding it altogether. With BodyTite, it makes liposuction a viable option for more patients with poor skin elasticity that desire dramatic fat reduction without having to worry about skin sagging after liposuction. For those patients that just want to remove a modest amount of fat while firming skin, BodyTite works great.
