Fillers and BOTOX have become such commonly-discussed treatment that many people do not realize that treatment with injectables is a medical procedure.
We have all seen photos of the scary things that can happen when BOTOX and fillers are applied incorrectly, such as droopy eyelids or “fish lips.” We use injectables in Austin that can be used as powerful tools to rejuvenate the face, hands, lips and neck.
It is important to have treatment from a medical doctor with years of experience who really understands anatomy, so the products are used correctly.
Over the years, BOTOX® has become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world.

Many patients do not realize that BOTOX and fillers do two totally different things.
BOTOX is a neurotoxin that diminishes the ability of the muscle in the treatment area to contract by blocking the signal to the nerves. If the muscle doesn’t move as often, the lines and wrinkles in the area are smoothed. Most patients originally seek our BOTOX for the vertical lines between the eyes, but our Austin BOTOX treatments are effective on any active muscle. Dr. Whitfield uses it to smooth crow’s feet around the eyes, in the forehead, around the upper lip and in the neck. BOTOX is also effective for treating excessive sweating in the hands, feet and underarms.
Fillers are used to restore lost volume. They are used to fill in fine lines, wrinkles, plump up cheeks and create plumper lips. There are many different options when it comes to fillers. Some are better for certain areas than others. This is another reason why it’s imperative to see an experienced injector like our Austin plastic surgeon, Dr. Whitfield. He not only understands the pros and cons of each filler, but he knows how to combine different fillers and BOTOX to deliver a truly excellent non-surgical facelift with arguably the best results in injectables Austin has to offer. Think of it as an artist mixing color on a palette while painting.

More ABout Dr. WhitfieldA hyaluronic acid (HA) based filler, Restylane is used by Dr. Whitfield to diminish circles under the eyes by filling in the tear trough area. He uses a cannula, as opposed to a needle, to inject the filler in order to reduce the risk of bruising.
For his lip augmentation patients, Dr. Whitfield always starts small—0.5 – 1.0 ml—and uses a cannula to deliver natural looking volume to the lips with minimal bruising. Results are evaluated at 1-2 weeks after swelling has resolved.
This product is slightly stiffer, and we do use it under certain circumstances, but we are more likely to use Restylane Refyne.
This HA filler was specifically designed for treating “smoker’s” lines around the mouth and improving both the shape and volume of the lips. For his lip augmentation patients, Dr. Whitfield always starts small, 0.5 – 1.0 ml, and uses a cannula to deliver natural looking volume to the lips with minimal bruising and swelling.
Dr. Whitfield typically uses this filler to restore larger areas of lost volume, such as those in the mid-face and cheek. The filler is placed deep, and care is taken not to widen the face with prominent cheekbones. The goal is for you to look like you, only better.
Like Restylane, the Juvéderm family of fillers are HA-based fillers. Dr. Whitfield typically uses this one for restoring volume to the upper and lower lip as part of a lip augmentation.
This filler has the largest molecules, making it ideal for re-plumping the mid-face and cheeks. This cheek lift can be adjusted over time and prevent the need for a surgical lift. Again, the goal is to restore your cheeks, not change them.
In general, there is little to no downtime following an injectables treatment. Depending on the type of filler used and the areas treated, you may experience some post-treatment swelling and bruising. This should resolve quickly. Results can be evaluated in one to two weeks and improved as needed.
