Fat Transfer

Fat is not your enemy! In fact, fat can be your friend. Fat transfer, or fat grafting, is a procedure in which excess fat is harvested from an unwanted area and replaced somewhere else on your body to create beautiful, soft, natural volume.

Fat transfer to create a youthful look

As previously thought, sagging skin is not simply the result of gravity, it is also about a loss of volume. Anyone who was accused of having a round face when they were younger gets the last laugh when they hit middle age. If you look at an old picture, you looked younger partly because you had more fat in the right places. Dr. Robert Whitfield uses fat transfer in Austin to strategically restore this lost volume. The result is a more youthful, completely natural look to your face, breasts or body.

Is natural fat transfer better than synthetic injectables?

There are two advantages to fat transfer over facial fillers. As the fat is from your own body (autologous), you are not having a foreign substance injected in your face. This reduces the risk of any kind of potential reaction, such as an allergy.
The other advantage is the results will be long-lasting once the swelling has resolved and the tissues have healed. The downside of a fat transfer is that is can be more expensive takes longer to achieve the final outcome. Fat transfer for breast enhancement may require multiple sessions to achieve the increase in volume you envision.

What's Right For You?

In the right patient, a breast augmentation with fat grafting alone may be possible. In general, plastic surgeon Dr. Whitfield uses fat transfer in Austin for his breast augmentation and breast reconstruction patients to enhance the appearance of a breast implant by smoothing out any irregularities and/or improve contour in the upper pole.

How long is the recovery from natural fat transfer?

For most fat transfer procedures, only small amounts of fat are removed with liposuction under local anesthesia. Since multiple areas may be treated, you can expect to be sore and bruised, but you shouldn’t experience any significant downtime. In cases where larger amounts of fat are necessary, liposuction will be performed under general anesthesia at an accredited surgery center. Recovery in these cases will take a bit longer, typically one to two weeks, during which you will need to wear a compression garment. All of this will be discussed with you in detail during your initial consultation.
